mCLASS Math not only measures students’ grasp of things like number and operations, algebraic thinking, geometry, expressions and equations, and ratio and proportion, but also delves into their reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.

mCLASS benchmark assessments
mCLASS benchmark assessments are designed for the purpose of universal screening three times a year (at the beginning, middle, and end of the year) to evaluate student performance against end-of-year grade-level expectations determined by empirically established cut scores that are valid, reliable, and predictive of later outcomes. These assessments:
- Provide rich performance and insight into student thinking.
- Are assigned digitally to the whole class three times annually.
- Utilize open-response questions to obtain more robust data from each item, resulting in shorter assessments.

mCLASS Progress Monitoring assessments help teachers chart students’ progression between benchmark assessment windows. For students receiving targeted support, mCLASS Progress Monitoring determines if intervention is effective or adjustments are needed to enhance student learning.
These short yet effective assessments enable teachers to monitor a student’s math performance between mCLASS Benchmark assessments. mCLASS Progress Monitoring assessments can be assigned to a select group of students needing targeted support in a specific skill or Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention, and are aligned around crucial math domains for each grade level. These assessments:
- Charts student progress between benchmark assessments.
- Are digitally assigned to students who are identified for additional support.
- Indicate whether targeted intervention plans are effective or adjustments are needed.

The assessment system focuses on providing a comprehensive yet efficient assessment that addresses the important work of the grade. Major math concepts—or Domains—for each Benchmark are identified by their appropriateness for time of year and include foundational content and skills for the grade level. This includes several foundational concepts within beginning-of-year benchmarks to support the accessibility of content in relation to the major work of each grade.
